According to “Medieval Latin: an introduction and bibliographical guide” (Frank Anthony Carl Mantello, A. G. Rigg, p. 322), “shoemakers had neither spoken nor written Latin for at least four hundred years when such words came to be needed again in Latin.” Hmm, interesting. That’s why I could not find “aglet” in Oxford (printed) dictionary.
